Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Drupal Camp? What is Drupal?
Drupal is a free open-source content management system (CMS) written in the PHP programming language. Drupal Camps are community sharing + training events for Drupal enthusiasts, from new users to seasoned developers.
This is the second DrupalCamp PDX. The first was in 2008.
How Much Does it Cost?
Free! Thanks to our amazing sponsors, we’re working to make sure our costs are covered and this event is free to participants.
We are working to provide a weekend of learning and collaboration within our local community, and are thankful for the donation of space for our event by NedSpace Old Town. Our organizers have pared down expenses as much as possible, but there are still many costs related to putting on an event like this, from things like chair rental to coffee to infrastructure support like wifi, so we are still seeking in-kind donations and financial support to meet these needs.
If at the end of the camp we have money left over, we will invest it in the next DrupalCamp PDX. We’ll share details once we’ve collected all our sponsor checks and our bills are paid.
How Big is the Conference?
We have a maximum limit of 150 participants. Register now to ensure your spot! And don’t forget to unregister if you can’t make it so that we can give the spot to someone else should there be a waitlist.
Why is this year’s camp an unconference?
Well, long story short, the format was determined by the venue (NedSpace Old Town). Back in the spring, the PDX Drupal UG had secured a venue at CubeSpace for a DrupalCamp but had to seek other venues when CubeSpace went out of business earlier this year. NedSpace stepped up and donated their lovely Old Town location to us for the weekend, so we ran with it. The setup at NedSpace is much more conducive to an unconference, having one rather large room, a sort of large room, and many smaller rooms.
Do I need to register a session on the site if I want to present?
No, you don’t. You can submit a session on Friday night during session planning. That said, it’s cool to see what people are thinking about speaking on, so if you know you’d like to present a session, please consider posting it on the site!
Can I register more than one person at once?
Unfortunately, no. Each person’s profile holds their conference registration information.
Will I receive any registration materials in the mail?
No, everything is handled online. Show up with an ID that matches your registration.
We’ll send you a few emails leading up to the conference, but that’s it. Then when you sign in at DrupalCamp PDX all you need to do is provide your registration info.
Is DrupalCamp good for new users?
Yes! DrupalCamp is a great place for new users, actually. It’s a chance for users of all levels to interact and learn from and with each other. There’s plenty of hardcore hacker content, but also a good deal that is applicable to someone learning their way around Drupal.
This is, however, a conference designed for people who use Drupal. It’s not intended to help you figure out if Drupal is the right choice for you or your organization, but rather a chance for people who interact with Drupal to come together and learn how to use it better.
Can I still become a sponsor of DrupalCamp PDX?
Absolutely. Please visit our Sponsor page for more information.
How can I get my hands on the code for this site?
This site was developed by DrupalCamp LA and we thank them for sharing. :D The site and its source code are provided by This by Them under the GPL license (same as Drupal). It does not include the graphics for this site, but it does have a Zen sub-theme ready for your own graphics. Read the full Case Study on how LA Drupal built it and the requirements that drove their decisions. Content and configuration of this site by Drupal PDX and design donated by our friend Andrea Couch of Creative Pickle.
